Summer is Upon Us

This past weekend we swam for a while in our high falutin’ country club pool. Oh yes, we belong to a country club now. My British accent? It came with the membership. As did that big stick that I had to pull out of my ass.
Last year Ali wouldn’t even put her face in the water. “Too scared!” she would scream. Even a couple of weeks ago if we asked Ali to put her face underwater she would shriek and throw a ridiculous fit. The solution? Goggles. Who knew putting something over her eyes would magically allow her to put her entire body underwater and swim around like she’d been doing it since right before she was born.

After swimming we took the girls to Dairy Queen for ice cream. Believe it or not, neither one had ever had a dipped cone before. I know, I know, we totally need to quit that damn country club and reconnect with the other 99%. All of this privilege has warped my ability to parent properly. It should never take 6 years to introduce dipped goodness. I will say, the excursion was a hit. The girls were fascinated with how an ice cream cone can be turned upside down and held in warm chocolate sauce. “How do they DO that?!” Ali had a super fun time cracking the chocolate off the ice cream and Sam just devoured the entire thing almost as fast as I did. Did she care how the chocolate managed to hug the ice cream? Not in the least. And I have the video to prove it.
